Thank Goodness for Family

Crazy is as Crazy Does - And Thankful for it!

Left to right - Sean, Lani, Norma (Lani's Mom), Valentina (Lani's lil Sis), Dan (Lani's Dad)

"Awesome party last night, so happy to be a part of it all!! Congrats!!! Your parents are LEGIT."

That post from a friend pretty much sums up how we felt about our engagement party. :) It turned out phenomenal!

It never could have happened without the love & support of my family. With my parents' party expertise (they've been throwing INFAMOUS shindigs since before I could walk) and my sister's flair for the creative while still keeping things (and me) in order - helped Sean and I put on a fantastic event.

We could never thank them enough for all that they did, have done, and will continue to do. I was blessed to be born into an insanely wack-a-do family who loves one another unconditionally. And I know that Sean is stoked to join the Wong Tribe too.

* Thank you to my (and Sean's now too) Mom, Dad, & Sister (who live in So Cal while we live in Nor Cal) for everything you did and everything you will do. We LOVE you more than a fat kid loves candy! *

My Epiphany: Weddings aren't just events, they are occasions of LOVE (yes sappy I know) that bring people TOGETHER - whether that be friends or family. I think that this experience is going to be nutso, but I'll treasure all of the moments that I get to spend with Sean, my friends, the Wedding Party, and ultimately my FAMILY.

"In truth, a family is what you make it." - Not sure who said this, but I am happy to live by this rule. :)

Pinterest: Great for Geeky Stuff, Wedding Stuff, but Not really Geeky Wedding Stuff

Dear Pinterest, It's Not You...It's Me

I joined Pinterest way before I was engaged. And since I'm a girl & the rest of Pinterest are almost all girls we helped one another plan our flawless $1,000,000 imaginary weddings. LOL!

Now that I am ACTUALLY planning a wedding I'm digging through my Holy Bells of Matrimony board and realizing that the things that I want or like were not directly found via the gaggle of girls that are on Pinterest. I mean, how many froo froo wedding pics do I really need to see?

What is with the weird eggs & the china?

When it comes to all things GEEK, Pinterest is chock full of material. Comic geekery, anime geekery, superhero geekery, video game geekery, Doctor Who geekery, Star Wars geekery and so on and so on. BUT - the Geek/Nerd Wedding ideas are waaaayyyyyy to cheesy for my taste...I mean OUR tastes (LOL, love you honey).

Yes, it's a Harry Potter wedding ceremony

Being that we are "Undercover Geeks" to most people when they look at us (that is till they see our apartment or hear the 2 of us chatter on about Legend of Korra) we want our wedding to be geek AND chic.

Don't get me wrong, we do want/plan on having a Ninja attack at some point in our wedding, but we don't want the whole thing to be a charade - we want a little bit of seriousness & romance. Just a bit. :)

As for the DIY aspect of a wedding (invitations, center pieces, gifts, decorations, etc) there's quite a bit more that I feel is well worth digging through. I almost feel like I'm at Ross, shopping during a huge sale, hoping to find a few gems within the mess of clothes. LOL!

So as you can see Pinterest IS useful, but can only help me in my wedding endeavours as far as everyone else's imaginations and tastes can go. Which stinks a bit as I was kinda hoping it would be a one stop shop for ideas.

My advice to those who want an original & personalised themed wedding is: Using technology, online resources & tools is fantastic. BUT the best way to reach your goal(s) is to meld minds with your partner in crime, your league of super friends & family, and to share/brainstorm TOGETHER. <3

And doing this over wine couldn't hurt. :D

Our Geeky Wedding Adventure Begins

Knock Knock? Who's there? WEDDING!

As a newly engaged & happy couple Sean and I were enjoying the bliss of knowing that we'd spend the rest of our lives together...that is till we received that fateful scratching at the door... the creature known as THE WEDDING has begun to claw & scratch its way into our lives! OH GOD WHY???!!!

We've always been prepared for Ninjas, Pirates, Radioactive Monsters, Zombies, & more, but THE WEDDING will be our toughest boss fight yet!

And so begins our Geeky Wedding Adventure!

Sincerely,
Lani and Sean

P.S. If you see that we are struggling with any missions or battles along our Adventure please don't hesitate to post a helpful comment or two!
